Jake Peavy is off to a 3-0 start and the Chicago White Sox are holding their breath. Peavy has endured three straight injury-plagued seasons which saw him average 17 starts, but only the teams he has faced in 2012 are hurting. Peavy looks to stay healthy – and undefeated – when the White Sox host the Boston Red Sox on Saturday. Peavy will face a daunting challenge as the Red Sox have won five straight – all on the road – since blowing a 9-0 lead and losing 15-9 to the Yankees on April 21. The last two have come against the White Sox by identical 10-3 scores.
Boston counters with Jon Lester, who has hardly been its ace. Lester, who is 76-36 lifetime but 6-8 in April, has struggled with his command, especially in his last two starts. The Red Sox’ bats are alive, though, and designated hitter David Ortiz leads the American League with a .425 average. He has four homers and 18 RBIs.
