The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are riding a winning streak as they prepare for their road game against the Pittsburgh Panthers on Saturday afternoon.
Ok, so that winning streak is actually just one game long, but the Irish impressed in Week 3 by knocking off then-No. 15 Michigan State at home by a score of 31-13. Notre Dame was a 5-point favorite on the college football betting lines at the Bodog Sportsbook for that contest and put some money in their backers’ wallets.
Prior to that result the Irish were 0-2 on the season, falling to South Florida 23-20 in their opener and then to Michigan 35-31 in Week 2. Farewell longshot national title chances, hello potentially disastrous campaign.
However, Notre Dame’s win over the Spartans gives them momentum going into their game against a Pittsburgh team coming off a loss. They’ll want to get some better numbers from their QB position against the Panthers, though, as Tommy Rees threw for just 161 yards with one touchdown and one interception against Michigan State.
Cierre Wood rushed for two scores for the Irish in the win, and George Atkinson returned a kickoff for a touchdown in the contest.
Pittsburgh thought they had a win in the bag in Iowa over the weekend, until Hawkeyes QB James Vandenberg tossed three TD strikes in the fourth quarter to give his team a 31-27 victory.
Iowa managed to cover a 3-point spread on the college football lines at the Bodog Sportsbook in that game. Pittsburgh supporters looked like they’d get an easy ATS win when they led 24-10 heading into the final frame.
Panthers QB Tino Sunseri threw for 255 yards with two touchdowns and two INTs against Iowa, while Ray Graham ran for 97 yards on 22 carries as his team fell to 2-1 on the season. They’ll look for a better result against the Irish on Saturday afternoon.
