The aging Boston Celtics are getting their toughest test of the compacted lockout schedule with three games in three days. After mailing in the first night at Toronto, the Celtics will be looking to rediscover their sense of urgency at the New Jersey Nets. Boston knocked off four straight playoff teams before shooting 37.5 percent against the Raptors. The Nets did the Celtics a favor by taking out the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday.

Boston Celtics (34-25): Boston had everyone anointing it as a title contender after rolling through the Indiana Pacers, 76ers, Miami Heat and Atlanta Hawks. The Celtics were within two games of the Pacers for the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference entering Friday but fell three games back with an uncharacteristically poor performance at Toronto. Boston’s big Achilles heel is rebounding, and the Raptors exposed that by crashing the boards. The highlight lately has been Rajon Rondo, who extended his streak of double-digit assist games to 20 with 12 helpers on Friday.
New Jersey Nets (22-38): New Jersey has nothing left to do but spoil things for other teams. It got started with that on Friday by taking out Philadelphia and will get more chances with the Heat, New York Knicks, Milwaukee Bucks and 76ers again following the Celtics. The Nets have a few exciting scorers in Gerald Green, MarShon Brooks and Deron Williams, and all three had nice games on Friday. New Jersey has had little success against the Celtics this season, dropping an 89-70 decision on Jan. 4 and falling, 107-94, on Mar. 2.
1. Green, who was drafted out of high school by the Celtics in 2005, has averaged 10.0 points on 42.1 percent shooting in two chances against his former team.
2. Rondo is nine games shy of John Stockton’s 29-game run of double-digit assists from 1992.
3. Boston has taken eight of the last 10 in the series but dropped its last trip to New Jersey, 88-79, on Mar. 14, 2011.
