Tim Lincecum’s season has been an unmitigated disaster. The two-time National League Cy Young Award winner will look to rebound from a career-worst outing Sunday when he leads the visiting San Francisco Giants into the finale of a three-game series versus the the red-hot Pittsburgh Pirates. National League Central-leading Pittsburgh posted its ninth win in 11 outings with a 3-1 triumph Saturday.
While the Pirates are as hot as the weather, the Giants have cooled down considerably after dropping six of their last eight – including four of five on their current road trip. Melky Cabrera (.353) went 0-for-4 on Saturday to fall a bit off the pace of Pittsburgh’s Andrew McCutchen (.359) for the league lead in batting average.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Giants RH Tim Lincecum (3-9, 6.08 ERA) vs. Pirates RH A.J. Burnett (9-2, 3.74)
After ending a 10-start winless streak in his previous outing, Lincecum yielded a career-high eight runs on nine hits in 3 1/3 innings in a 9-3 loss to Washington on Tuesday. The 28-year-old has split a pair of career decisions versus Pittsburgh – limiting the Pirates to a .224 batting average while registering a slim 1.07 WHIP.
Burnett had won his previous eight starts before imploding against Houston on Tuesday. The tattooed hurler allowed six runs on 12 hits in five innings, but was able to walk away with a no-decision as Pittsburgh rallied for an 8-7 victory. Burnett has fared well versus the Giants, posting a 5-2 career mark with a 1.84 ERA and 1.04 WHIP while limiting San Francisco to a .193 batting average. He has not faced the Giants since 2007, however.
1. Neil Walker collected a pair of doubles and drove in a run Saturday en route to extending his hitting streak to 11 games. Walker is 0-for-2 with a pair of walks against Lincecum.
2. Prior to his fruitless Saturday, Cabrera had nine hits and six RBIs in his previous five games. He is, however, only 2-for-21 in his career versus Burnett.
3. McCutchen will replace injured Miami star Giancarlo Stanton in Monday’s Home Run Derby.
