The Red Sox’s monster wild card lead was down to just 1.5 games after losing to the Baltimore Orioles 6-5 early Monday afternoon, but exploded in part two of the doubleheader, beating Baltimore 18-9. The Tampa Bay Rays, who did not play Monday, now sit two games back in the AL Wild Card race.
“We’ve been playing from a deficit a lot,” said Red Sox manager Terry Francona. “That’s a hard way to play.”
After going down 3-0 in the first inning the Sox came roaring back 11 runs in the next three. The game was sealed with a grand slam by Conor Jackson in the seventh.

Betting Analysis: The Red Sox have fallen behind by three or more runs in 11 of their last 16 games, perhaps this will finally get them back on track. Prior to this offensive explosion Boston had lost five of its last six, including three in a row to Tampa Bay.
Boston has two more outings against the Orioles and before facing their long-time rival the New York Yankees. Odds are in their favor versus Baltimore, they are now 9-4 straight up versus their division rival this season.
After three games at New York they close out the regular season with three more at Baltimore.
