The Arizona Diamondbacks have defeated San Francisco nine straight times and Saturday’s starter – Trevor Cahill – is 3-0 lifetime against the Giants. The odds seem overwhelmingly in Arizona’s favor as the National League West rivals meet in the second of their three-game set in Phoenix, but betting against San Francisco starter Matt Cain could be a risky proposition. Cain has allowed seven runs in his last four starts, but is 0-2 with two no-decisions to show for his efforts.
The San Francisco Giants are 3-7 in May and have scored only 23 runs in that span. San Francisco hasn’t supported Cain, either, with eight runs in those four outings. Cahill hasn’t received any support either (nine runs in his last four starts), but wasn’t nearly as sharp as Cain, allowing 15 runs (12 earned) during that span.
The Diamondbacks have outscored the Giants 56-23 during their winning streak over the Giants. “This offense has got to get going,’’ San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy said. “I just think that you are going to break out at some point.’’
