Australian driver Will Power has virtually owned the IndyCar Series so far this season, winning the past three races in a row to open up a massive lead atop the driver standings after four starts, but it’s Power’s Team Penske teammate Ryan Briscoe who is listed as the betting favorite on the Indy odds to win the historic Indianapolis 500 on Sunday (11:00 am Eastern) at the Brickyard.

Briscoe, who also hails from Australia, will start on the pole for Sunday’s running of the marquee IndyCar Series race after posting the fastest qualifying time by the slimmest of margins with an average speed of 226.484 miles per hour (over four laps) – just 0.0023 seconds faster than runner-up James Hinchcliffe of Andretti Autosport.
Briscoe’s previous best finish at the Indy 500 was a fifth-place result back in 2007 and he’s currently ranked in a tie for seventh place in the driver standings, but his blazing speed in qualifying and subsequent pole-position start has made him the 15/4 favorite on the auto racing betting odds to earn the win on Sunday.
Hinchcliffe is also listed among the Top 5 contenders at 17/2 odds, with three-time Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves (2009, 2002, 2001) of Team Penske priced at 11/2 odds, and Power valued at a tasty 6/1 to win his fourth straight checkered flag of the season on the IndyCar circuit. Castroneves won the first race of the year at St. Petersburg and sits second behind Power in the driver standings.
Ryan Hunter-Reay of Andretti Autosport will start alongside Briscoe and Hinchcliffe in the front row at 12/1 odds to win, while Marco Andretti is at 10/1 odds alongside Power and Castroneves in the second row.
Target Chip Ganassi teammates Dario Franchitti (9/1 odds) and Scott Dixon (10/1) will both be looking to enter their names in the record books as multiple Indy 500 winners, with Franchitti winning this event in 2010 and 2007 and Dixon claiming the checkered flag in 2008 after a runner-up finish behind Franchitti in 2007.
